Jerry Baker is a prominent master gardener and has some great tips for cleaning up your garden soil. It is simple and very effective. Keeping your garden's soil clean keeps disease and pests to a minimum. You can do this when the gardening season is over, and about every two weeks, in season. Try it, and let us know how well it worked for you! It will make a real difference. You know what they say: "An ounce of prevention....."
1 cup liquid dish soap, 1 cup antiseptic mouthwash, and 1 cup tobacco tea*.
Mix all of these ingredients in a 20-gallon hose-end sprayer, and give your plants and lawn a good shower.
*To make tobacco tea, wrap half a handful of chewing tobacco in a panty hose toe or a piece of cheesecloth. Soak it in 1 gallon of hot water until the water turns dark brown. Pour the liquid into a glass container with a tight lid for storage.
